Welcome to the WJ3RI Ham Shack, Murray, UT
Thanks so much for stopping by...
As Amateur Radio operators, I believe that each of us should be ready to serve our community when disasters or other emergency situations occur. Fortunately, actual disasters utilizing Amateur Radio's services are rare. However, if one practices operating techniques that are effective, efficient, courteous, and compliant with the federal regulations, there is a good chance that your skills will be "up to snuff" should the need arise.
If you are an Amateur Radio operator who wants to serve in time of disaster, you will need to become involved with your local and state emergency management offices. Many local HAM radio clubs are already working with these agencies as part of the ARRL ARES or the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES), which is set forth in FCC Part 97, Section 407.
As part of your participation in em-comm, you will need to become familiar with many aspects of emergency management. Typically you will participate in various community training and exercise activities.
